ON May 26, 2007, “Migrant Children Sport Meeting” was held jointly by China Children and Teenagers’ Fund,? Beijing Women’s Federation and Nike (China) Company Ltd. in Beijing Post and Telegram University. The theme of the Sport Meeting was “Children Hearts, Common Happiness in Beijing; Play Together and Grow Together”. The event was attended by Ms. Mo Wenxiu, Vice President of All-China Women’s Federation, Secretary of the Secretariat and Vice President of the Board of Directors of China Children and Teenagers’ Fund, Ms. Song Liying, CCTF Secretary General, Ms. Zhao Jinfang, Dong Jiong, World Badminton Champion and Wang Xiaoping, Nike (China) Company Ltd. Government Affairs Supervisor.
More than 300 “Migrant Children” from 24 migrant children schools of 7 districts in Beijing took part in the Sport Meeting, They took part in basketball and football matches as well as field and track competitions.
The activity organizer said that it was very meaningful to organize the migrant children to take part in the sport meeting to celebrate “June 1” Children’s Festival. The sport meeting not only encouraged the migrant children to develop the Olympic Games spirit of “quicker, higher and stronger” and “my involvement, my contribution and my happiness”, but also allowed the migrant children to feel the warmth of the socialist family.
Ms. Mo Wenxiu, Vice President of the Board of Directors of China Children and Teenagers’ Fund said that it was very meaningful to the growth of the children that Nike Company used sport to help the migrant children develop their potential ability and that children were the future and hope of the country as well as an important link for constructing a harmonious society. It was hoped that this sport meeting could promote the society to care for “migrant children”, allowing all children to grow under the same blue sky.
Representative Wang Xiaoping of Nike (China) Company, ltd. said that “migrant children” were the new city members. They needed various kinds of opportunities to develop their potential abilities. It was hoped that the activities of education implied in amusement would be conducive in promoting their living abilities and strong will.
World Badminton Champion Dong Jiong expressed the hope that, through this activity, the “migrant children” could learn from each other, get enriched from other’s experiences, make new friends and enjoy the pleasure of sport.
